The Thunder Bolt 920W Plug-In Solar Kit is an ENA-compliant solar system designed for UK homes. It combines two high-efficiency 460W solar panels with an 800VA dual-input microinverter, UK AC connection cable and dedicated mounting system.

Officially listed on the ENA Connect Direct register as a compliant Plug-in Solar device under reference THUNE/21204/V1.

With 920Wp of solar capacity and an 800VA maximum AC output, Bolt 920W is designed to deliver strong solar generation throughout the day while remaining within the UK plug-in solar framework.

Connect through a standard UK household socket and monitor your solar generation from your phone.

Optional upgrades include a flat roof mounting upgrade and 10m AC cable.

Yes. From 27 August 2026, compliant plug-in solar systems can connect to suitable standard household sockets in Great Britain under the new UK plug-in solar framework. Bolt 920W is listed as a compliant Plug-in Solar device on the ENA Connect Direct register.

Yes. Bolt 920W is supplied with the required UK AC connection cable and is designed to connect to a suitable standard UK household socket in accordance with the supplied instructions. Multi-way adaptors, travel adaptors and plug converters must not be used.

The 920W figure is the combined peak DC rating of the two solar panels, while the system's maximum AC output is 800VA. The additional solar capacity helps the system reach stronger output across more of the day, including during less-than-perfect conditions, while keeping maximum AC output within the UK plug-in solar framework.

Yes. Bolt 920W is the higher-output option in the Bolt range, using two solar panels to generate more electricity and help cover more of your daytime household consumption.

Yes. Each panel has its own input and MPPT, so each one is optimised separately. This is particularly useful where the panels experience slightly different orientations, shading or sunlight conditions.

Not normally. Bolt 920W is designed as a self-install plug-in solar system using a suitable household socket. However, if your electrical installation is old, its condition is unknown, or you are unsure whether the intended socket and circuit are suitable, we recommend having them checked by a qualified electrician before connecting the system.

Bolt works particularly well in gardens and on suitable flat roofs, sheds, outbuildings and rear extension roofs. Both panels must be securely mounted and positioned where they receive good sunlight with minimal shading.

Bolt 460W is our Smart Starter system with one solar panel and room to expand later. Bolt 920W comes with two high-output panels from day one, so it's the better choice if you have the space and want more generation.

The two solar panels generate DC electricity, which is converted into usable AC electricity by the microinverter. The system then plugs in through its UK 3-pin plug, and the appliances in your home use the solar electricity.

Yes. The microinverter has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and works with the S-Miles Home app, so you can check solar production and system performance on your phone.

Plug-in solar is grid-connected generation and the relevant DNO notification requirements still apply. Thunder provides the system information and ENA reference required for the applicable notification process.

Yes. Battery storage can be added later, or you can choose Bolt Plus 920W if you want the two-panel solar system and battery storage together from the outset.

Bolt 920W generates about 1,012 kWh in its first year at a 40° tilt facing south. Around 741 kWh of that is used in your home, because on sunny summer middays the panels make more than most homes need. That's enough to cover all of this:

Orientation: Modelled at 40-degree tilt facing south, the optimal configuration for London and readily achieved with a ground, flat-roof or wall frame. Output will differ at other orientations.

Specific yield: 1,111 kWh/kWp/year (PVGIS simulation for London at 40-degree tilt, including cable, inverter and module losses, less a 2% soiling allowance and a further 2% for microinverter clipping, as 920 Wp of modules feed an 800 VA microinverter).

Year 1 generation: 1,012 kWh.

Module degradation: 1% in year 1, 0.4%/year thereafter, reaching 87.4% of rated output at year 30 (Bolt performance warranty).

Seasonal generation split: Winter 33% / Summer 67% (derived from PVGIS monthly output at 40-degree tilt for London).

Self-consumption rate: Winter 100% / Summer 60% (blended 73%). Midday summer output exceeds typical household base load, so a share of generation cannot be used on site.

Annual consumption: 2,700 kWh (Ofgem typical medium household). Winter 60% / Summer 40%.

Electricity tariff: 26 p/kWh (Ofgem price cap, July 2026), 3% annual inflation assumed.

Export: No export income is included in this projection.

Basis of calculation: Figures are modelled on a 920 W (2 x 460 W) system.
