The Thunder Bolt 460W Plug-In Solar Kit is an ENA-compliant solar system designed for UK homes. It combines a high-efficiency 460W solar panel with a microinverter, UK AC connection cable and dedicated mounting system.

Officially listed on the ENA Connect Direct register as a compliant Plug-in Solar device under reference THUNE/21203/V1.

Connect through a standard UK household socket, monitor your solar generation from your phone, and expand to the separately ENA-listed Bolt 920W system later if you want more solar capacity.

Optional upgrades include a flat roof mounting upgrade and 10m AC cable.

Yes. Thunder Bolt 460W is officially listed as a compliant Plug-in Solar device on the Energy Networks Association Connect Direct register under reference THUNE/21203/V1.

Yes. From 27 August 2026, compliant plug-in solar systems can legally connect to suitable standard household sockets in Great Britain under the new UK plug-in solar framework. Bolt 460W is listed as a compliant Plug-in Solar device on the ENA Connect Direct register.

Yes. Bolt 460W is designed as a simple entry point into home plug-in solar. You start with one 460W panel and already have the infrastructure to expand with a compatible second panel later.

Yes. Bolt 460W uses one of the two independent inputs on the Hoymiles HMS-800-2WB microinverter. You can later add a second compatible 460W panel and upgrade to Thunder Bolt 920W, which is separately listed as an ENA-compliant Plug-in Solar system.

Protective MC4 caps are supplied to cover the unused microinverter connectors until you add a second panel.

Yes. Bolt 460W is supplied with the required UK AC connection cable and is designed to connect to a suitable standard UK household socket. Extension leads, multi-way adaptors and travel adaptors must not be used.

Bolt works particularly well in gardens and on suitable flat roofs, sheds, outbuildings and rear extension roofs. Wherever it is installed, the panel should be securely positioned and receive good sunlight with minimal shading.

The solar panel generates DC electricity, which is converted into usable AC electricity by the microinverter. The system then plugs in through its UK 3-pin plug, and the appliances in your home use the solar electricity.

A hard-wired solar installation is not normally required for Bolt 460W. Plug-in solar is designed for consumer installation using a suitable household socket. However, if your consumer unit is old, your circuits are not clearly identifiable, or you are unsure about the condition of your electrical installation, you should have it checked by a qualified electrician before connecting the system.

If you'd rather not deal with it, Thunder can handle the DNO notification for you.

Yes. The microinverter has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth and works with the S-Miles Home app, so you can check solar production and system performance on your phone.

Yes. Plug-in solar remains grid-connected generation and your Distribution Network Operator must still be notified under the applicable G98 process. This is a notification rather than a traditional solar connection application. Thunder provides the information you need to complete the notification.

The panel measures 1762 × 1134 × 30 mm and weighs about 21 kg, so it's a fairly compact single-panel set-up.

Yes. Battery storage can be added later, or you can choose Bolt Plus 460W if you want solar generation and storage together from the outset.

Orientation: Modelled at 40-degree tilt facing south, the optimal configuration for London and readily achieved with a ground, flat-roof or wall frame. Output will differ at other orientations.

Specific yield: 1,134 kWh/kWp/year (PVGIS simulation for London at 40-degree tilt, including cable, inverter and module losses, less a 2% soiling allowance).

Year 1 generation: 516 kWh.

Module degradation: 1% in year 1, 0.4%/year thereafter, reaching 87.4% of rated output at year 30 (Bolt performance warranty).

Seasonal generation split: Winter 33% / Summer 67% (derived from PVGIS monthly output at 40-degree tilt for London).

Annual consumption: 2,700 kWh (Ofgem typical medium household). Winter 60% / Summer 40%.

Electricity tariff: 26 p/kWh (Ofgem price cap, July 2026), 3% annual inflation assumed.

Export: No export income is included in this projection.
